This means it's not currently recognized as its own thing it's only considered a symptom of autism by the American Psychiatric Association. There's currently a fight to get this affliction listed in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. While it's real to me, it's not to everyone. Fortunately, I had occupational therapy and at-home treatments that worked, but I realize now that not everyone is so lucky.
